Appearance
Video hero
A full-bleed hero that plays a looping, muted background video with your heading, text and button composed on top. Different from the Video section: that one embeds a video for watching — this one uses video as atmosphere behind a hero message.
The video autoplays silently on desktop. On mobile the theme shows the Poster image with a play button instead — a cleaner first paint on small screens. This is a presentation choice, not a bandwidth saver: the video element is still on the page and loads (muted, hidden) in the background on phones too. Tapping the mobile play button reveals and starts the video, and the button then disappears — there is no persistent play/pause control. Visitors who have asked their device to reduce motion see the poster instead of the video: the theme suppresses its automatic, script-initiated autoplay (though the browser itself may still honor the video's autoplay attribute in the background). Manual playback stays available — tapping the mobile play button still starts the video. The button only exists on mobile viewports, so on desktop a reduced-motion visitor sees the poster alone.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Color scheme | Which of your theme's color schemes the overlay content uses. |
| Video | A Shopify-hosted video. Autoplay, muted, looped by default. |
| Poster image | Shown on mobile and for visitors with reduced-motion preferences. Keep it visually similar to the first video frame. |
| Heading | Used as the section's accessible name and as the poster alt-text fallback — the visible headline comes from a Heading block instead. |
| Minimum height on mobile | How much of the screen the hero fills on phones — 40–100% (default 60%). |
| Minimum height on tablet | The same for tablets — 40–100% (default 75%). |
| Minimum height on desktop | The same for desktop — 40–100% (default 85%). |
Composing the overlay
The content on top of the video is built from the theme's standard blocks — add heading, text and button blocks in the theme editor and arrange them as you like. A fresh section starts with a heading ("Timeless craft"), a line of text and a "Shop now" button. While the section has no blocks, the theme editor shows a prompt ("Add a heading, text, or button block to compose your hero overlay."); a scrim between video and content keeps the overlay legible.
This section does not take app blocks.
