Custom section

A blank canvas you compose yourself from the theme's building blocks. The section itself brings only a color scheme and an optional background image — everything inside it is blocks you add and arrange in the theme editor.

Because it accepts any of the theme's blocks, it's the section to reach for when no purpose-built section matches the layout in your head: groups of headings, text, images, and buttons in whatever order tells your story.

When you first add it, it comes pre-filled with a starter group — a heading ("Make it your own"), a short text block, and an image — so you're editing a layout, not staring at an empty section.

Settings

SettingWhat it does
Color schemeWhich of your theme's color schemes the section uses.
BackgroundAn image rendered behind the whole section, edge to edge. Your blocks sit in the page container on top of it. Leave it unset for a flat background from the color scheme.

Blocks

Any theme block. Add them from the editor's sidebar and drag to reorder; the section renders them in exactly the order you set, and you can nest blocks inside a group block to lay them out together.

If you remove every block, the section shows an "Add blocks to build this section." placeholder — but only inside the theme editor. On your live storefront an empty custom section renders nothing visible.

  • Rich text — a faster path if all you need is a heading, a paragraph, and a button.
  • Custom Liquid — when you'd rather write raw HTML or Liquid than compose blocks.
